- Boundaries!
Everybody struggles with this, try your best to keep personal/business life separate. If you don’t set boundaries then eventually your family relationship will turn into nothing but work. There is so much more to talk about with family rather than talking business all the time. Trust us when we say, sometimes things come up and important discussion is needed “OFF HOURS” but what we’re saying is, try to keep business away from the dinner table, weddings, funerals, holidays, family get togethers, etc…
- Be Fair!
You don’t want to get to the point where you don’t want to bring things up because you don’t want to jeopardize hurting a family member’s feelings or creating a family feud. Don’t partner with someone who doesn’t see things with an open mind, because YOU, as a business owner, need to speak your mind. If there is something that your partner is doing that you don’t agree with, let them know. And remember, approach is everything!
- Family Issues!
Keep in mind that not all business ventures work the way you want them to. Starting a business with a family member will be tough, especially if you don’t choose wisely. When you have a business with a friend and the business ends on a bad note, it’s different to cut someone like that out of your life. Family on the other hand, you will still have to see them at family events.
