Has that new year motivation worn off and you don’t know what to do to change it? Is your self-motivation just not there anymore? It’s okay, it happens to all of us at some point. If things aren’t going the way you want them to, maybe it’s time to change the way you are doing things.

You’ve trained your brain to only focus on the “bad” things in your life.

Maybe things are not going as planned. Try to find good in everything. Yes, we understand that there won’t always be good in things. But looking for the good in things is critical to your mental state. Once you’ve trained your mind to focus on negative things, it’s hard to dig yourself out of that hole. Baby steps… You can change your thoughts which in turn will change habits, which can drastically change your life if you let it.

Avoid Negativity

If you feel that there is something or someone in your life that is draining your positive mindset, distance yourself from it/them. When you’re in a negative mindset, you need to focus on yourself. Being surrounded by negativity is not going to help you. It is OK to take some “me” time, in fact, we highly recommend you do so for your well-being.

Don’t over commit yourself

Are your commitments to others stopping you from achieving your own goals? Are you doing too much for other people, and not enough for yourself. Yes, helping others is a great thing to do. But if you find yourself tossing your goals aside to help someone else accomplish theirs, there is a problem. Now is the time to focus on yourself. Remember you need your oxygen mask on before you can help someone else with theirs, right?

Exercise

Go for a walk, work out, do yoga, etc. Exercise releases endorphins. Even if you have a busy schedule, wake up earlier and get your exercise in. 20+ minutes a day, 5 days a week, you can do it. Even if you can make that happen twice per week that’s great!  You will start to notice changes in your attitude and motivation. Make this part of your daily routine.

Morning Routine

Wake up earlier, drink your coffee or tea and listen to a motivational speaker, then do your workout and go about your day. Making small adjustments to your morning will affect the outcome of your day. Start your morning off right.

You don’t want to get to a point where you make “unmotivated” part of your identity. Start thinking positive, do what you need to do to accomplish your goals. Sometimes putting others aside and doing what is best for you is necessary. If you don’t get your lack of motivation under control now, it may lead to depression which is a different problem. When you feel like you’re already doing what you can and it’s not helping, that’s when you should seek help. Small changes can make a big difference, trust us!
