When you are thinking about buying a home, there are many things you should take into consideration prior to buying. It’s important to think ahead because hey, this is a long term investment. What is going to be best for you and your family? Ask yourself these questions.

How is your financial situation?

As a homeowner, you should have some money set aside for things that may come up. Odds are, they’re going to come up! You will be responsible for all home maintenance now. If possible, you should try to have at least 5 months of monthly living expenses in your savings account, because who knows what’s going to happen! It is also important to have an idea of your monthly expenses so you know what you can afford without digging yourself in a hole.

What type of home will be best for you and your family?

It’s important to consider the things you may want in the future, like kids. If your family is growing keep in mind, bedrooms, bathrooms, school districts, and the neighborhood in general.

What type of special features do you want in your home?

Remember, this is a long term investment. If there is something you feel like you MUST have in a house, make sure there is potential to put it in if it’s not already there. If you are set on having this feature, make it happen!

Is the timing right?

Be mindful of what is going on in the Real Estate world when purchasing a home. How is the market? Is it a sellers market or a buyers market? Are mortgage rates high or low? Another thing to think about is your job! If you may be moving in the next few years for work, make sure you weigh the pros and cons of buying vs renting if your job has you moving frequently.

As you know, there are so many things to think about before purchasing a house, it’s a big decision for your life and your future. Take the time to think about it and don’t rush your decision. If there is anything we can do to help, don’t hesitate to reach out to us!
