What is Staging? Staging is decorating your house before you list it for sale. It can be a great way for a “for sale by owner” to get more traffic in your home. Below are 10 tips for staging your home:

Bright pictures

When hanging pictures on the walls, use pictures with a pop of color and ALWAYS make sure they are straight!

Keep Things Simple

Remove any family photos and personal items. Creating a neutral space with a pop of color to draw the eye is the goal.

The Yard

Get some planters to put outside. Curb appeal is very important! Remember when you’re doing this, real flowers are great but if you get a pot, some fake flowers, and greenery, you can use them again when staging your next house.

Lights

Oftentimes, being inside a vacant house it can seem kind of dark, add some lamps to the room(s)! Remove any heavy drapery and let the natural light in!

Bathrooms

Put a shower curtain, pictures on the walls, and hand towels in the bathroom. Keep in mind those pops of color! But be careful not to overdo it.

Decorations

Make sure to put something in every room! Hang pictures on the wall, put a lamp in the room, and put some throw pillows on the floor.

Throw pillows

This may seem a bit odd, but instead of putting furniture in all the rooms, we put some throw pillows on the floor in a corner, making the room look and feel better.

The Kitchen

Put some coffee cups on the table or some wine glasses, add a kitchen towel on the countertop, place a teapot on the stove, and put some pictures on the walls.

Avoid clutter

When you are decorating each room, don’t put too much! You don’t want it to look cluttered in there. Add a little something and leave it at that.

Check Your Walls

Most importantly, you are trying to sell this property and odds are, the buyers are not going to want holes all over the walls. If you can, use the Picture Hanging Strips that you stick to the wall.

Remember!

Keep in mind, when people walk into a vacant home it shouldn’t feel bare but instead should feel welcoming. Our homes are staged differently, but always want it to feel “homey” and simple. We never overwhelm the home with expensive furniture or clutter, we want people to see the property for what it is. Always encourage people to decorate how they please and hope with these few ideas, we can add some value to their pockets.
Always stay Simple!
